We are a community that champions the values of self-government. These include voluntary association, personal responsibility and neighborly assistance.

Our VISION is:

A world of self-governing people living in a condition of happiness, harmony and prosperity.

Those who advocate for self-government reject the initiation of force as a means of solving social problems. Instead, we promote a social and political philosophy that promises greater public safety, smarter regulation, and more compassionate welfare. That political philosophy replaces coercion with persuasion and violent state power with systems of free association.

Everything we do is driven by our MISSION:

To equip people to understand, embrace, and advocate the values of self-government.

This site is devoted to the cause of non-interventionism and is read by libertarians, pacifists, leftists, “greens,” and independents alike, as well as many on the Right who agree with our opposition to imperialism. Our initial project was to fight against intervention in the Balkans under the Clinton presidency. We applied the same principles to Clinton’s campaigns in Haiti and Kosovo and bombings of Sudan and Afghanistan. Our politics are libertarian: our opposition to war is rooted in Randolph Bourne’s concept that “War is the health of the State.” With every war, America has made a “great leap” into statism, and as Bourne emphasized,

it is during war that one best understands the nature of that institution [the State].

At its core, that nature includes an ever increasing threat to individual liberty and the centralization of political power.

JUSTICE, PROSPERITY, RESPONSIBILITY, TOLERANCE, COOPERATION, AND PEACE.

Many people believe that liberty is the core political value of modern civilization itself, the one that gives substance and form to all the other values of social life.

They are called libertarians.

The Statement of Principles adopted by COFOE puts the issue plainly:

“Full and fair access to the electoral process is a right central to democracy.”

It was to champion this principle that a group of independents and representatives of alternative parties from across the political spectrum came together in the early ’80’s to form the Coalition for Free and Open Elections (COFOE).
COFOE supports Congressional legislation to strike down barriers to ballot access.
We support actions in the courts and various state legislatures to remove ballot restrictions.
Our field representative, noted election law authority Richard Winger, publishes Ballot Access News monthly, providing up-to-date information on developments relating to the electoral process.
We ask the support of all Americans, irrespective of political views, to join this fight for really free and democratic elections.

The mission of the Center for Small Government is to make government small.

We seek small government, at the federal, state and local levels, that is strictly limited to defending our lives, liberty and property; that honors individual rights; that stays out of unnecessary wars; and that is contained and transparent enough to easily find and root out government waste, dysfunction, and injustice.

Most political discussion in America today consists of the left bashing the right and the right bashing the left. When anyone manages to talk about government policy, we hear proposals for more big government. We hear criticisms of those proposals. And then we hear more left- and right-bashing.

What we almost never hear is serious proposals for less government. Proposals to dismantle the many big government programs and agencies that do more harm than good, or that are bloated and need to be downsized. They’re missing in action.

Liberty is a journal of culture and politics written from a classical liberal point of view.

Liberty was founded by R.W. Bradford in 1987 as a national journal of libertarian opinion, news, investigation, and intellectual exploration. For over two decades, Liberty has exemplified the richness and range of classical liberal writing. It has published the leading figures of libertarian economic, political, historical, and literary thought.

During its first 23 years, Liberty appeared in print. Now it appears as a free online journal, immediately accessible to people everywhere.

Liberty is not just current events. From the start, Liberty’s goal has been to publish the best libertarian writing available. It opens itself to whatever is exciting, charming, or engaging in every field, from politics and philosophy to fiction and film reviews.

The Cato Institute is a public policy research organization — a think tank — dedicated to the principles of individual liberty, limited government, free markets, and peace. Its scholars and analysts conduct independent, nonpartisan research on a wide range of policy issues.

Founded in 1977, Cato owes its name to Cato’s Letters, a series of essays published in 18th‐ century England that presented a vision of society free from excessive government power. Those essays inspired the architects of the American Revolution. And the simple, timeless principles of that revolution — individual liberty, limited government, and free markets — turn out to be even more powerful in today’s world of global markets and unprecedented access to information than Jefferson or Madison could have imagined. Social and economic freedom is not just the best policy for a free people, it is the indispensable framework for the future.

The Mises Institute exists to promote teaching and research in the Austrian school of economics, and individual freedom, honest history, and international peace, in the tradition of Ludwig von Mises and Murray N. Rothbard. These great thinkers developed praxeology, a deductive science of human action based on premises known with certainty to be true, and this is what we teach and advocate. Our scholarly work is founded in Misesian praxeology, and in self-conscious opposition to the mathematical modeling and hypothesis-testing that has created so much confusion in neoclassical economics.

We are especially guided by their most important books: Mises, Human ActionTheory of Money and CreditSocialismLiberalism; and Theory and History. Rothbard, Man, Economy, and State With Power and MarketAmerica’s Great DepressionAn Austrian Perspective on the History of Economic ThoughtThe Ethics of Liberty.

Founded in 1982 by Llewellyn H. Rockwell, Jr., with the blessing and aid of Margit von Mises, Murray N. Rothbard, Henry Hazlitt, and Ron Paul, the Institute seeks a free-market capitalist economy and a private-property order that rejects taxation, monetary debasement, and a coercive state monopoly of protective services.

Non-political, non-partisan, and non-PC, the Institute works with students and scholars from many countries, and reaches out to business leaders, professionals, and everyone else interested in our mission. We believe that our foundational ideas are of permanent value, and oppose all efforts at compromise, sellout, and amalgamation of these ideas with fashionable political, cultural, and social doctrines inimical to their spirit.

FEE’s mission is to inspire, educate, and connect future leaders with the economic, ethical, and legal principles of a free society.

These principles include: individual liberty, free-market economics, entrepreneurship, private property, high moral character, and limited government.

The Foundation for Economic Education (FEE) is a 501(c)3 educational foundation and has been trusted by parents and teachers since 1946 to captivate and inspire tomorrow’s leaders with sound economic principles and the entrepreneurial spirit with free online courses, top-rated in-person seminars, free books for classrooms, as well as relevant and worldly daily online content.

Students For Liberty is a rapidly growing network of pro-liberty students from all over the world. We are the largest libertarian student organization in the world.

We are thoroughly trained and professional. Through increasing awareness of our emotions, we are able to manage and control them, leading to improved interpersonal relationships and empathetic communication with people with other viewpoints. We have a high level of understanding of the ideas of liberty and can clearly and effectively explain the economic and philosophical rationale for the issues we stand for.

Rising above partisan politics, we engage in open and civil discourse over how to best promote freedom in all aspects of our lives. We respect that everyone comes to their justification for liberty in their own way and we are supportive of them in that journey.

Liberty creates a better world and our message surrounding the ideas are welcoming, positive, and inspiring.

The Institute for Justice is the National Law Firm for Liberty.

IJ litigates to limit the size and scope of government power and to ensure that all Americans have the right to control their own destinies as free and responsible members of society.

Since 1991, IJ has come to the aid of individuals who want to do the simple things every American has the right to do—including own property, start and grow a business, speak freely about commerce or politics, and provide their children with a good education—but can’t because they find the government in their way.

IJ has litigated over 290 cases, including eight before the U.S. Supreme Court. We have lost only one case in the Supreme Court, Kelo v. New London, which we went on to win in the court of public opinion.

Additionally, since its founding, the Institute for Justice has been an excellent steward of the resources entrusted to it by donors across the nation. That is why IJ has earned Charity Navigator’s top 4-star rating every year since 2001, which puts the Institute for Justice in the highest one percentile of the more than 9,000 nonprofits ranked each year by Charity Navigator.

The Institute for Justice is a 501(c)(3) organization; donations are tax-deductible.
